The Avery Family's Story
The Avery family knows the true meaning of the word fight.
When Duncan and Nohea Avery learned that their seven-year-old daughter, Kalea, had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, their world changed forever. Just thirteen days later, their five-year-old son, Noah, received the same devastating diagnosis.
In an instant, the family was facing the unimaginable with both of their children.
Through treatments, uncertainty, and heartbreak, the Averys fought alongside Kalea and Noah. Their journey reflected the extraordinary courage of two young children and the unwavering love of a family determined to give them every opportunity.
Along the way, the family became passionate advocates for greater awareness and more funding for pediatric brain cancer research. Their experience underscored the urgent need for better and safer treatments for children facing these devastating diseases.
Despite their remarkable courage and the love and determination of their family, both Kalea and Noah experienced a recurrence of their cancer. Kalea passed away on September 1, 2022, and Noah, lovingly known as Nono, passed away on December 16, 2022.
Even amid this heartbreak, their story continues to inspire greater awareness of pediatric brain cancer and the urgent need for better treatments for children.

A Legacy That Moves Research Forward
The Fight Like the Averys Grant (FLAG) was established in honor of Kalea and Noah Avery during their courageous battles with medulloblastoma, the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor. Today, the grant continues in their memory, carrying forward their legacy and the Avery family's unwavering commitment to advancing pediatric brain cancer research.
Through FLAG, the Uncle Kory Foundation supports innovative, early-stage research focused on medulloblastoma and other pediatric brain tumors. These grants give researchers the opportunity to explore promising ideas, generate critical data, and pursue larger research initiatives.
